Why HERCRED
Millions of Nigerian women earn every month, run shops and businesses, and support families. Most formal lenders still ask for a credit history, collateral or a guarantor. Many women have none of the three.
Banks often ask for property or a guarantor before they lend. HERCRED asks for neither. Your income and identity are what count.
Your identity is checked against NIBSS or NIMC records. This is also how the programme confirms it reaches women only.
Each on-time repayment goes to a licensed credit bureau. Repay in full and you can borrow again, with limits that can rise over time.
Phase 1 targets
How it works
CREDICORP funds the programme. A participating bank checks your application, issues the loan and collects repayments.
Use BVN or NIN to securely verify identity and eligibility.
A few honest questions about how you feel about credit. Your answers never affect your eligibility.
Share your income or business cash flow so the bank can check what you can afford to repay.
Eligibility and credit assessment are completed through an approved participating financial institution.
See the amount, interest, tenor and repayment obligation clearly before accepting.
Repay on time. Each payment is reported to a credit bureau and builds your formal credit history.
